Masakatsu Asai (浅井 正勝,   Asai Masakatsu) is a Japanese former assistant director and cameraman who worked for Toho since the 1950s. He served as the first AD under Eiji Tsuburaya on numerous of the company's classic tokusatsu films up to 1962, after which he was succeeded by Teruyoshi Nakano. Because assistant special effects directors were not credited until 1963's Attack Squadron, Asai never received a single credit. Though he did not work on any further films, he continued to be employed at Toho, becoming the manager of one of the Special Technology Section's subsections.[1] In 1970, Asai was responsible for deciding that the art staff in the soon-to-be-dissolved Special Technology Section be transferred to Toho Bijutsu, rather than to Toho's new Visuals Department.[1]
