Comparison to gravity beams sandbox + other questions/proposals

This is definitely an interesting project and could be really helpful in not making the overall Godzilla page too large and difficult to read. However, I'd like to ask a few questions/proposals before I start to help with this sandbox.

1. Personally, I think listing incarnations and media together in the history section is really confusing and odd to read, I'd personally have it be just by incarnation same as Sandbox:Gravity beams. It would also make it more clear as to who the different Godzilla incarnations are.

2. This goes for every page with this distinction (which I've noticed a lot of) but why are there limits on the table of contents? It makes it harder to navigate the page imo.

3. Does Godzilla Filius count as a Godzilla incarnation or related character? The main Godzilla page puts him in the incarnation category though I think there's certainly an argument for him being different.

4. Should we have a category for similar breath weapons used by Godzilla incarnations to include the OG's incandescent light or Hanna-Barbera's fire breath? (then again, the variations section could be enough)

5. This is probably already planned but should we add video games, books and comics sections?

Basically, I personally think it should look more like the current (30/01/2025 15:51) version of the gravity beams sandbox. I hope this doesn't come off as me trying to be bossy or controlling or something, they're just a few ideas I had before I started helping with an already pretty-large sandbox that recently appeared as I'd obviously rather avoid any kind of edit wars or disagreements.-Titanozilla2023 (talk) 16:06, 30 January 2025 (UTC)

I speak for all of us when I say we're all happy to be working on this much needed page together as a large group. We should however prioritize any concerns that could impact the outlook of it.

1. I had tried to do just that yesterday, but the edit didn't completely register and my surviving efforts were changed to treat the history section in accordance of the eras and films rather than the incarnations of Godzilla.

2. I have nothing to say about that.

3. I believe he qualifies since it is essentially the same situation with the second Tristar Godzilla albeit with a different portrayal and role.

4. Perhaps no. The incandescent light still qualifies since it is essentially the original name. As for say the first Tristar Godzilla's power breath or the Hanna-Barbera Godzilla's fire breath, we should probably acknowledge them while putting an emphasis on their distinction since they function the same way (imagery-wise mostly).

1. I agree, honestly intended for the categorization be incarnation based originally, though I think it had been changed at some point, and I was not sure if I wanted to change it since I did not want to cause any edit wars or come off as pushy. And yes, after seeing the Gravity Beam sandbox, I think it looks great!

2. I suppose I changed the limit to two on the TOC since it had originally been this rather unsightly mass of sections and subsections that took up a chunk of the page, but maybe it should include the subsections instead.

3. I honestly agree that Filius should count as a Godzilla incarnation, since that seems to be how he is grouped.

4. Same as what GojiraBoy said.

5. Those will be sure to be added yep!

Merchandise section?

Should a “merchandise” section be added to the page (toys and such with the atomic breath, ex. NECA 2001 Atomic Breath ver, Super7 MinusGoji (Charging), and etc. )? I’m asking because while the idea seems nice, it might get too big/confusing, and we don’t have a similar section for pages like Beam-Fight. --BioRobot2002 (talk) 16:39, 30 January 2025 (UTC)

Questions of name

Okay, this has always bothered me: Where and when did the Anglo fandom term "Atomic Breath" precisely originate? It's as old as the early '70s, appearing in a September 6, 1972 issue of The Monster Times in an article by Gary Gerani covering Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster: https://archive.org/details/Monster_Times_15_Sept_6_1972_Bones/page/n13/mode/2up?q=%22atomic+breath%22

Also, over time, how did it become the de facto English name, despite Toho having a tenuous relationship with it at best? And what's the case for still using it, other than its ubiquity?

Other attack pages?

Are there any other abilities that could qualify for a page? I've thought about fire breath, laser eyes, and Mothra's scales, but the first two are really generic and Mothra's scales don't appear nearly as often as Godzilla's atomic breath and Ghidorah's gravity beams. Also, if there's enough pages, could we hypothetically make an abilities navbox?

No abilities come to mind besides the gravity beams. Mothra's scales/powder and Gamera's firebreathing take pretty disparate forms; ditto Mechagodzilla's weaponry.--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 18:41, 31 January 2025 (UTC)
