At some point in the past, the Gyaos built a nest in the area that would come to be known as Himegami Island, and there they would lie dormant. However, thousands of years later, human activity would bring them out of their dormancy.
One night, a group of Gyaos attacked the village on Himegami Island amid a storm, causing extensive damage and devouring its residents, along with a professor who traveled to the island due to reports of a new species of large bird there.
Following the attack, ornithologist Mayumi Nagamine went to the island upon request from police inspector Tsutomu Osako to take part in an investigation following the university professor's disappearance. After looking around the village, Nagamine came upon a large pile of bird-like droppings which contained the remains of people, including those of the professor. Following this discovery, Nagamine insisted upon searching for the creature responsible, and she tracked through the island's forests with Osako and the police. As the sun began to set, a Juvenile Gyaos flew overhead as it hunted for food. Realizing the danger that the Gyaos posed, as the creature was going to travel beyond Himegami Island now to prey on more people, Nagamine had the group pursue it in a helicopter.
Some time later, Ms. Nagamine returned to Himegami Island, and came upon their nest in a cave within the forests, discovering that the young Gyaos resorted to cannibalism when the larger Gyaos had not returned with food, leaving none in the nest alive.
