Godzilla Island
Matango Island lies within swimming distance of Godzilla Island. In the story arc The Trial of Godzilla, Godzilla attempted to use a trip to the island as an alibi when he was prosecuted by G-Guard, who believed that he had gone rogue and attacked Tokyo, but the monster ruined his defense when he admitted that he nibbled on an inebriating mushroom on the island. The following arc, Junior Kidnapped, takes place primarily on Matango Island. Godzilla's son Junior was kidnapped by Megalon and held hostage at an Xilien fortress on the island. After thwarting multiple attempts by Godzilla Island's monsters to free Junior, the Xilien Zagreth erected an Infrared Auto-Blaster to defend the fortress. Junior was ultimately freed in an all-out assault, the Auto-Blaster's sensors having been disrupted by Mothra's scales, but Zagreth deployed Destoroyah as a last resort. Destoroyah was finally defeated when Godzilla lured the Auto-Blaster into firing on him.
The island also appears in the arcs Goodbye, Torema, Second Generation Mothra, and Dororin.
