Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong is a seven-issue comic book collaboration between DC Comics and Legendary Comics in association with Toho International, crossing over the Justice League with the Monsterverse. When the barrier between worlds is breached during a confrontation between the League and the Legion of Doom, Godzilla and Kong emerge on an Earth of the DC Universe. The comic is written by Brian Buccellato with art by Christian Duce and Luis Guerrero, and ran from October 17, 2023, to May 21, 2024.

A sequel series entitled Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong 2, which will take place in the world of the Monsterverse, is set to begin in 2025.

Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong was first announced on July 20, 2023 at San Diego Comic-Con, and was advertised in issue #39 of DC Comics' DC Connect catalog on July 24.

Trivia

• This comic is not canon to the Monsterverse or the primary DC continuity. Writer Brian Buccellato has stated that he considers it akin to the output of Elseworlds, a DC imprint which releases comics set in standalone continuities. Differences from the primary Monsterverse continuity are as follows:
  • Although he still lives on Skull Island, Kong uses a Green Lantern Ring to create a copy of his battle axe, which he did not discover until after he permanently left the island in Godzilla vs. Kong.
  • Lex Luthor shows Mercy Graves a visual of Godzilla from Mechagodzilla's perspective. In the primary Monsterverse continuity, the two only met once, in Godzilla vs. Kong, which ended in the machine's thorough destruction; despite this, the Mechagodzilla pieces that Luthor assembles do not possess any battle damage.
• Godzilla was planned to cross over with Justice League member Batman in an unmade 1960s film. Batman was also mentioned in Godzilla vs. Biollante, with Asuka Okouchi comparing Kazuto Kirishima to the hero after his fight with SSS9.
  • Batman previously met King Kong in The LEGO Batman Movie. Both they and Mechagodzilla were also featured in Ready Player One, though none of them interacted.
  • The Monsterverse Godzilla's design made a cameo in 2019's Titans: Burning Rage #5, by way of Beast Boy shapeshifting into a bright green version of it named "Garzilla."
• This comic represents the first official meeting of Godzilla and Superman. The hero was previously mentioned by Ken Yano in the 1971 film Godzilla vs. Hedorah, and in a line from Godzilla vs. Biollante's English dub (replacing the Batman line).
  • Coincidentally, Godzilla vs. Hedorah director Yoshimitsu Banno would later help facilitate the creation of the Monsterverse.
  • Unofficially, Godzilla and Superman appeared together in a drawing made by Homer Simpson in a 2000 episode of The Simpsons, 23 years before this comic's publication.
  • The crossover is also reminiscent of the 1942 animated short film The Arctic Giant, in which Superman fought a giant city-smashing dinosaur who predated Godzilla by 12 years.
• Lex Luthor's role in this comic is similar to that of Walter Simmons from Godzilla vs. Kong, as both are megalomaniac billionaires and owners of large technology companies that aim to achieve world domination. Additionally, both have constructed Mechagodzilla for their own destructive purposes, with Simmons' being to destroy the Titans and Luthor's being to destroy the Justice League. However, unlike Simmons, Luthor uses some of the Titans as his pawns instead of aiming to kill them.
• With this comic, Godzilla has appeared in the multiverses of both DC and Marvel Comics and fought their most prominent superhero teams: the Justice League and the Avengers, respectively.
• The McFarlane Toys "Titano vs. The Flash 2 Pack" figure set utilizes artwork from this series on its packaging and on collectible cards included in the set, with both figures seemingly based on their appearances in this comic. However, the series itself is not named on the packaging.
