— Notzilla (Notzilla) |
Notzilla is a good-natured dinosaur monster who first appeared in the 2019 parody film Notzilla. Although his species, Notzillasaurus partiuntildon, dates back to the Bodacious period, Notzilla himself was born in or around 1962 to "Mama Notzilla" in Japan, shortly before she was killed by the JSDF. While normally only the height of a man in a rubber suit, exposure to fermented berries and grains like those found in beer causes him and other members of his species to grow spectacularly tall. He was smuggled out of Japan as an egg by Dr. Hiro Honda before landing in the hands of the Secret Nuclear Underground Government Installation (SNUGI) in Cincinnati, Ohio, after accidentally being flushed out of an airplane toilet. He was later adopted by Dr. Honda and Dr. Shirley Yujest.
Name
Notzilla's name is a pun on Godzilla, using a portmanteau of the English negatory adverb "not," to clarify that he is not in fact, Godzilla. In the world of the film, the name is short for the species name Notzillasaurus partiuntildon. He is briefly given the name Barney by Donnie Draper, but his colleagues all reject this moniker.
Design
Notzilla's appearance reflect his naturally docile and friendly nature. While generally similar in shape to Godzilla, or other similar dinosaur kaiju, the spines down Notzilla's back are shaped like a line of people holding hands, and the club at the end of his tail has a smiley face on it. As a part of the film's visual comedy, a large and prominent zipper runs down his front. He is mainly blue-gray in color, and has two large, expressive yellow eyes. His mouth houses a few pointed teeth, and he has pointed ears protruding from either side of his head.
Personality
Notzilla is shown to be a docile and friendly creature, with most of his destructive tendencies being accidental or out of curiosity. While giant, Notzilla caused very little destruction and no casualties during his romp through Ohio. He is typically friendly and helpful, although his size can cause problems for others. He is willing to light a man's cigarette with his fiery belch, and typically greets those he meets with a casual and cool "finger-guns" hand gesture. He also boasts a sense of shame, politeness, and morality, which is demonstrated by him covering his mouth in shock after burping or farting at an inopportune moment. Furthermore, he listens to the orders of his adoptive mother, Dr. Shirley Yujest.
Origins
Notzilla's species, Notzillasaurus partiuntildon, dates back to the late Bodacious period in Earth's history. It is unknown how his species survived, but the egg that would hatch Notzilla was laid in Japan circa 1962 by his mother "Mama Notzilla", and smuggled to Cincinnati, Ohio, by Dr. Hiro Honda. There he hatched while under the care of the former child star posing as the head nuclear physicist at the Secret Nuclear Underground Government Installation, Donnie Draper, who immediately gave the infant Notzilla beer, causing him to grow to immense size.
History
- Notzilla (2019)
Notzilla
In 1962, Notzilla's egg was rescued from sure destruction at the hands of the JSDF by Dr. Hiro Honda, who was unwilling to let it share the fate of its mother. He smuggled the egg to the United States in his carry-on bag on a plane bound for Cincinnati, Ohio. Unfortunately, the bag with the egg inside was flushed out of the plane's toilet in a freak accident. It landed in the Ohio River, and was found on the shore by Dr. Shirley Yujest of the Secret Nuclear Underground Government Installation (SNUGI). The egg was taken by her employer, Dr. Richard Blowheart, who put it on his desk for use as a lamp. After a night of binge-drinking to cover his insecurities, Blowheart discovered the egg had not only grown substantially, but reacted to beer being poured on it. After he did this a second time, the egg hatched, and the young Notzilla quickly nursed a beer from Blowheart's hand. He promptly belched flame into Blowheart's face. Dr. Yujest then entered to collect Blowheart for a presentation, and they were forced to lock him in the office. While they were away, Notzilla broke into and drank the rest of Blowheart's stash of Padiddle Hills beer before walking through the office wall and out into Cincinnati, despite being 500 stories below street level. He then made his way to Kowabunga Point, Kentucky, where he drank 80 cases of beer in a local man's garage before urinating and heading to the Ohio River. The team from SNUGI searched for him in the river, but had no luck until the night, when Notzilla surfaced. A man named Bobby Bleech, believing that Notzilla had killed his grandfather, leaped onto his tail with a handgun intending to kill him, but his grandfather, who was coincidentally captaining the boat, encouraged him to relax and throw away the gun. He threw it onto the ship's deck and it accidentally fired, which startled Notzilla and caused him to run away. This led to Bleech surfing on Notzilla's tail. Notzilla later let him off in front of the Padiddle Hills brewery before inventing the "high-five," and drinking the gigantic, kaiju-sized beer can on top of the building.
In the morning, Blowheart and the Pentagon of Southwest Ohio set up an artillery ambush for Notzilla in the Dookie Valley, 35 miles west of the city. Notzilla spotted them and shot them a finger gun in greeting as his tail wagged excitedly. They launched all kinds of missiles at him, but he proved immune. He then knocked down all the soldiers and even cut the strings of the fighter jet props that were sent at him. With the battle over, he turned and left toward Cincinnati.
That night he spotted a train coming, and used its control switch to play with it for a moment before picking it up and plucking out passengers and dropping them to the ground. Before wandering into another trap the following morning, Notzilla grabbed a passing Padiddle Hills blimp, tucked it under his arm, and ran to score a "touchdown" before the city's high-tension power lines. As he celebrated, his hand touched the electrical tower, sending shocks through his body. He seemed to enjoy the sensation, and continued on his way. When he arrived in the city, he grabbed the giant beer can off of a Padiddle Hills billboard, and began to drink it. He then burped flames onto the billboard, setting it on fire, and sneaked ashamedly away. He then used his fiery belch to light a man's cigarette before blasting him once again with his flatulence. Shirley, knowing that Blowheart would destroy Notzilla and irradiate Cincinnati for the next 50 years with his Uber-fission mega blaster the following morning, arrived to stop him. Notzilla picked her up and was startled when she began to scold him for his behavior and abuse of alcohol. She insisted that he throw away his giant beer, and after a brief mishap wherein he nearly threw her away instead of the can, he let loose a long series of burps and farts that set fire to part of the city. Dr. Yujest insisted that he put the fire out, and so he unzipped his suit and urinated on the flames to extinguish them. She then told him to run for the hills, where he would be safe.
In the morning, Blowheart, who was really former child star Donnie Draper posing as a scientist, discovered that his Uber-fission mega blaster had been sabotaged by the rest of the SNUGI team, and Notzilla arrived to deliver a bouquet of trees to Dr. Yujest. However, the military under the command of Frigid-air General Bogus still had their regular artillery ready to fire. Dr. Honda, having worked all night with the brewmaster at Padiddle Hills to develop a warm-fusion anti-beer based on Dr. Yujest's notes, arrived with a giant can of the concoction strapped to the back of a truck. Honda and Yujest encouraged him to drink it, and it quickly shrank him back to his regular size. All was not well however, as the machine had a secret backup power switch, and Draper set it to fire at Notzilla. However, several people stood around the creature, and proclaimed "I am Notzilla," before breaking into a chorus of Kumbaya. Draper fired the weapon, but not before Honda nudged the half-finished beer can in front of the blast, dousing Draper and his new girlfriend in irradiated anti-beer and shrinking them.
After this, Notzilla was adopted by Honda and Yujest, and he kept Draper and the woman as toys. As they all sat one night on the banks of the Ohio River, they watched in disbelief as three more Notzilla eggs washed ashore.
