Alongside fellow Medicine Monsters Remdesivir and Ivermectin, Avigan's name stems from medicines studied to fight COVID-19 at the start of the global pandemic caused by the virus. Avigan's name specifically comes from Favipiravir, which is sold under the brand name "Avigan."
