The Hudson Megalodon is a gigantic marine monster who debuted in the third issue of The Kong Crew by Eric Herenguel in 2021. It was rarely seen, and it was believed that it was impossible for such a creature to survive in the Hudson River, but it was first spotted in 1937, and survived the following ten years, and surfaced again in 1947 during the evacuation of the Manhattan Jungle.

Design

Despite its name, the Hudson Megalodon more closely resembles a mosasaur, with a reptilian skull, four flippers, and a fluke on its tail. Its back is lined with bumps, and its skin is furrowed with patches of scales scattered in parts of its body. It has blank white eyes, and a mouth full of sharp teeth.

Origins

When Kong was brought to New York City, he brought with him strange invasive parasites that spread through the food chain and are theorized by Dr. Jonas Parker to cause "retro-evolution" in each following generation of the infected species. The parasites are also suspected to accelerate the creature's life cycle, allowing faster growth, maturity, reproduction and death. While it can be presumed that the Hudson Megalodon's ancestors were some kind of shark, the retro-evolution led to it becoming something like an ancient Megalodon.

History

The Kong Crew

"Hudson Megalodon"

in 1937, the Kong Crew tried to force Kong into Central Park, but when a group of pterosaurs began to attack them, they were forced to flee. One of the plane's gunners, a man named Alvin, was forced to eject, and parachuted into the waiting jaws of the Megalodon, which showed its face for the first time on record to snap him up. The incident became a recurring nightmare for the surviving pilot Lieutenant Pearl, and no one he told ever really believed that a Megalodon could be living in the Hudson River.

"Blast Exit"

In 1947, no one had seen the Megalodon for ten years, and there was speculation that Pearl had imagined it, or that it could not have survived the river's pollution. Following some military activity that changed the jungle forever, a fire broke out in Central Park, forcing all the animals living there to flee southward. The ensuing stampede included stranded humans Virgil Price, Damara, Kurt Conrad, and Irvin Stone, who headed for the ruins of the Brooklyn Bridge in an old tank. The humans abandoned their tank to board Stone's inflatable dinghy and flee the island in his waiting seaplane. This allowed Kong to use said tank to attack a rival Tyrannosaurus, sending the machine and the dinosaur into the river. This caught the Hudson Megalodon's attention during a stint in the East River, and it began to stalk the taxiing seaplane. From the sky Colonel Pearl saw the beast's silhouette following the survivors. The Megalodon surfaced and chomped down on the plane's right wing before submerging once again. Pearl resolved to try and kill the Megalodon before it could attack again. When the beast surfaced again, Pearl lined his plane up and dropped the bomb it was carrying. The ensuing blast had enough force to send the Megalodon out of the water entirely, and Pearl was certain that it was now dead.

Abilities

Marine physiology

The Hudson Megalodon is adapted for a completely aquatic life, which allows it to be a proficient hunter in the water.

Bite

The Hudson Megalodon displays an incredible bite strength, and is able to bite off the wing of a plane with no personal consequences.

Weaknesses

The Hudson Megalodon is unable to survive outside of the water, and would be vulnerable if beached. Despite its resilience and strength, the Megalodon was killed with normal ballistic ordinance.
