Knob is a Great Ape who first appeared in the 2024 Legendary Pictures film, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Name

Knob is named in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire - The Official Movie Novelization. His name potentially stems from his thick, knobby fingers.

Development

Like all of the known minor Great Apes sans Boots, Knob was most likely modularly constructed.[1]

Design

Like his fellow Great Apes Catcher, Stone Fist, and Boots, Knob resembles a gorilla. Compared to other notable Great Apes, Knob has thick fingers and a slightly smaller head. His chest and abdomen are particularly pale and devoid of fur, and he has two thick red stripes painted diagonally across it. Additionally, his right arm and face are covered in red paint.

Personality

Knob repeatedly growled at Kong, being so invested in his target that almost didn't notice the tripwire for his rockslide until One-Eye stopped him from triggering it. After Suko triggered the trap anyways, Knob and the other three Great Apes panicked, and Knob continued fighting One-Eye even while the latter used him as a shield.

History

Knob was one of the Great Apes who chased Kong across the Hollow Earth. He, One-Eye, and three other Great Apes cornered Kong in a ravine, which the latter had lured them to to kill them with a rockslide trap. One-Eye noticed the tripwire and motioned for his compatriots to stop, and they stepped over it. However, Suko set off the trap from above, and right before the rocks hit, One-Eye grabbed Knob and used him as a meat shield so that he would survive. As Kong and Suko walked away, One-Eye freed himself from beneath the rocks and Knob's corpse.

Abilities

Physical capabilities

Knob climbed out of the Living Caves alongside several other Great Apes and pursued Kong across a vast distance to his territory without getting noticeably tired.

Durability

Knob's corpse was able to withstand Suko's rockslide mostly unharmed, allowing One-Eye to survive beneath him.

Intelligence

Although One-Eye's thoughts in the film's novelization do not characterize Knob as very intelligent, Knob was smart enough evade Kong's previous traps and listened after One-Eye stopped him from stepping on the trigger for Kong's rockslide trap.

Weaknesses

One-Eye managed to lift Knob and used him as a shield against Suko's rockslide, resisting Knob's attempts to free himself and leading to his demise. One-Eye attributed this to him being "faster and smarter" than Knob was.

One-Eye pushed against Knob's corpse, reminding himself of the events that happened after the Great Ape troop cornered Kong. He shoved Knob's body until it broke free from the rocks covering it and fell out of the pile, allowing One-Eye to escape.
