"We Wanna Be Idols" (アイドルになりたいの,   Aidoru ni Naritai no) is the 35th episode of Chibi Godzilla Raids Again and the 22nd of its second season. Written by Taketo Shinkai, it aired on Japanese television on August 28, 2024. An English-subtitled version followed on the GODZILLA OFFICIAL by TOHO YouTube channel that September 4.

Plot

Chibi Godzilla and Chibi Minilla happen upon Chibi Mothra flashing lights and the Shobijin posing. When he asks them what's going on, the Shobijin explain that Chibi Mothra is helping them accomplish their dream of becoming idols by playing both their manager and audience. The Shobijin announce their group name as the "Cosmos" before discussing the flower of the same name, boring Chibi Godzilla to the point that he comments it's like watching grass grow. The Shobijin then abruptly prepare to preform "Mothra's Song", with Chibi Minilla insisting that they need to work on their transitions. The Shobijin begin a flawless performance until Chibi Godzilla realizes they're lip-syncing and gets mad. The Shobijin object, arguing most idols lip-sync and that by doing it they can improve their dancing skills, though Chibi Minilla points out they weren't dancing either while Chibi Mothra tells them she knows they can sing. The Shobijin turn to her, saying that their "good enough" singing won't help them at all in the music industry and that they have to get by on cuteness alone. They suddenly stop and announce their next song, which is also "Mothra's Song", specifying that it's the original Peanuts version, though Chibi Minilla suspects it's another lip-sync. Some time later, the Shobijin's concert ends, and they thank the three kaiju for coming. Though Chibi Minilla correctly guessed all of their songs were lip-synced, Chibi Godzilla was thrilled by the performance, which the former blames on him just being happy to hear the original version of the song. Chibi Godzilla requests an encore, which the Shobijin agree to if he pays to take a picture with them, marking down their ¥20,000 price tag to a mere ¥1,000. Chibi Godzilla accepts, while Chibi Minilla exclaims that the first price tag was simply absurd. The Shobijin force Chibi Godzilla to choose which one of them he wants to take a picture with, only to end up further berating him once he can't decide before demanding that Chibi Mothra kick him out. Some time later, Chibi Godzilla asks Chibi Minilla why he's on the Shobijin's blacklist, to which Chibi Minilla replies that idol life must be hard.

Trivia

  • The Shobijin take on the stage name of the "Cosmos" in an obvious reference to Mothra's fairies of the same name in the Heisei era Godzilla film series.
